The Brief

Loaf approached Design Metric to reimagine a narrow high-street retail unit into a warm, artisan café. The challenge was to make a long, slender footprint feel open, tactile and inviting — maximising both seating and flow.

Every inch of the layout was optimised through bespoke joinery and custom detailing, ensuring functionality didn’t compromise the relaxed, handcrafted character the brand is known for.

The Concept

The interior concept drew inspiration from artisan craft and honest materials — combining exposed brick, hand-finished timber and warm metal accents. A bespoke counter was designed to integrate barista equipment, refrigeration and storage in a compact footprint.

Externally, Loaf’s rebranded façade and clean black signage provide instant identity, while inside, layered textures and low lighting foster a cosy, community feel.

The Outcome

The completed space delivers maximum impact within minimal square footage. The bar’s slatted timber and oak surfaces create depth and craftsmanship, while durable finishes ensure longevity for daily trade.

Loaf now stands as a local landmark — a space where artisan warmth meets practical precision, echoing the café’s handmade ethos and welcoming personality.
